We are on the final day of the New Moon with a visibility of 38%, which is increasing as the Earth’s motion allows more sunlight to reach the lunar surface. Tomorrow, we will enter the Crescent Moon phase, and this month also marks the first eclipse of the year.
Moon phases schedule for February 2025
The National Institute of Meteorology provides detailed information on the phases of the Moon, including specific timings for each transition. For March 2025, the lunar calendar schedule is available.
Phase of the Moon | Date | Schedule |

What does the lunar cycle entail?
The lunar cycle, referred to as lunation, typically spans 29.5 days and involves four primary phases: New, Waxing, Full, and Waning. Each phase lasts around seven days, showcasing varying illuminated sections of the Moon based on its alignment with Earth and the Sun.
During the lunar cycle, there are intermediate phases known as interfase calls, such as Crescent Room and Gibbous Crescent between the New and Full phases. Following the Full Moon, we transition through Minguante Gibbous and Fourth Minguante interfases before reaching the final Minguante phase.
Were you aware?
When you observe the sky, you always see the same side of the moon due to its synchronous rotation, where its rotation period matches its orbit around the Earth.
The significance of each stage of the Moon

The moon’s different shapes in the night sky are well-known and admired. They occur because of how the Moon, Earth, and Sun are positioned in relation to each other. Each phase of the moon has unique features and visibility, making the lunar cycle fascinating to observe and learn about.
New Moon – The second book in the Twilight series.
The first stage of the moon’s cycle happens when it is situated between Earth and the Sun. Known as the New Moon, its visible side is not lit up, making it invisible from Earth. This phase symbolizes a new beginning and is linked to rejuvenation in various traditions.
Crescent-shaped moon
Sunlight illuminates the western half of the Moon as it travels in its orbit, forming a “C” shape in the Southern Hemisphere and a “D” shape in the Northern Hemisphere. This phase symbolizes growth and progress.
The moon is completely visible in the night sky.
When the Earth is positioned between the Sun and the Moon, the satellite reflects sunlight on its entire illuminated side visible to us, creating a fully bright and visible appearance. This phase, known as the Full Moon, symbolizes maximum illumination and is linked to energy and completeness. It is often connected with mystical occurrences and offers an optimal opportunity to observe lunar craters and mountains.
Moon made of mint
During the Waning Phase, sunlight illuminates the eastern side of the moon, leading to decreased visibility as it progresses. In the Southern Hemisphere, the moon resembles a “D”, while in the Northern Hemisphere it appears as a “C”. This phase symbolizes closure, introspection, and tranquility.
