Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, entered into a partnership with South Korean tech company Kakao on Tuesday (4), as OpenAI looks to form collaborations following the impact of Chinese company DeepSeek on the artificial intelligence industry.
The Kakao group, which possesses an online bank, the primary taxi application in South Korea, and the KakaoTalk messaging platform, revealed a partnership permitting the integration of ChatGPT in its upcoming AI offerings.
Altman’s company incorporates the Starget initiative, which was introduced by American President Donald Trump to allocate funds of up to $500 billion towards AI infrastructure development in the United States.
DeepSeek’s introduction to the AI industry caused a significant impact in Silicon Valley by providing an advanced chatbot at a more affordable price compared to its rivals.
“We are thrilled to introduce cutting-edge AI to Kakao’s extensive user base and collaborate to incorporate our technology into services that revolutionize the way Kakao users communicate and interact,” Altman commented.
The executive will also hold discussions with delegates from two South Korean semiconductor producers, Samsung and SK hynix, who supply chips for AI servers.
